Defcon – Everybody dies

DEFCON is a online nuclear war simulator for up to 6 players. You play a General hidden deep within an underground bunker. Your mission is to successfully exterminate your enemy’s civilian population whilst saving your own. Create tactical alliances, break them at the right moment and decimate millions in the process.

The games cover and manual was designed to look like a old nuclear survival guide from the 70’s. We got permission to use illustrations from real nurclear survival pamphlets in the manual. Besides covering how to play the game, the manual also had survival tips that made it clear how extremely low your chances of surviving a nuclear attack would be, even if you took every precaution you could.

The game and soundtrack can be bought at the Introversion webstore or at Steam. Released in 2006

The video above is from July 2019, made by Clayton Ashley, Jenna Stoeber and Simone de Rochefort from Polygon and gives a excellent overview of the game and its impact 13 years after its release.
